Our People

Team members

Meet our loved team members in the US and Uganda.

Founder and Executive Director

Katie Robben

Katie is from Southern Illinois and moved to Uganda in September 2016 to teach at Kyarusozi Primary School. On her first day of class, the Deputy Head Teacher, Tusiime Florence, approached Katie and asked her to volunteer with an association of children living with HIV and AIDS. Katie was moved by the locally led initiative and soon founded Let Us Move Mountains to partner with other locally led organizations and schools. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville and is currently completing a master’s degree in nonprofit administration at the University of Notre Dame. Katie loves riding motorcycles in Uganda and in the United States.

Born and raised in Kyarusozi, Buka is serving his community by directing day-to-day operations of LUMM. Buka has been with LUMM since 2017. In addition to his hard work as part of our team, he is also completing his bachelor's degree in Public Administration and Management. Outside of work, Buka enjoys playing football and making friends. His favorite football player is Ronaldinho, but his favorite team is Chelsea.

Finance Manager

Kaihura Emmanuel Atwooki "Emma"

Emma is from the greater Kyarusozi area and has a great friendship with Buka - he has attended school with Buka since they were thirteen. Since he began working at LUMM in 2017, Emma has managed budgets and ledgers with utmost care. Additionally, he is the project coordinator for our partnership with St. John Bosco Vocational Institute. Emma hopes to soon complete his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Accounting. When he’s not working hard at the office, you can find Emma playing and watching football. He also loves exploring and traveling, and one day he wants to travel to Canada.

Agribusiness Manager

Asiimwe Joseph

Joseph was born and raised in Kyarusozi. He even attended Kyarusozi Primary, where we do much of our work. Joseph joined the LUMM team in spring 2020 and since then, our farm has grown tremendously, adding the poultry, piggery, and rabbit projects and annual crops like pineapples. Joseph is currently attending university to earn his bachelor’s in Agribusiness. Fun fact: Joseph likes watching adventure films, and his favorite right now is “Handsome Siblings.”

Human Resources Director

Ninsiima Angella Akiiki

Angella is from Kabale district in southwestern Uganda and now lives in Fort Portal. Here at LUMM, Angella serves as the Human Resources Director, the glue that holds our team together. She is also the counselor to our students, checking on them regularly to monitor their progress in school and find out how we can best support them. In addition to her work at LUMM, Angella also works at Virika Hospital in Fort Portal, and she is in her last year of a bachelor’s degree in Community Development at Mountains of the Moon University.
